Almost all kitchens use standard size hinges.
Where they differ is the position of these hinges. We can drill hinge holes in your new doors for you wherever you need them, making fitting your new doors a breeze.
To drill your hinge holes, we need to know:
We need to know which side of the door you need the holes on (left or right, we know you want them on the back of the door 😊)
Left or Right Hand Hinge – First Kitchens
The image above shows an example of both left and right-hand hinge holes. In other words, look at a cupboard in your kitchen straight on. If the side of the door where the hinges are located is on your right, this is a right-hand hinged door.
Almost all kitchens use a standard 35mm concealed hinge (like this), so we already know the size of hole to drill. We drill the holes a standard 5mm in from the side of the door so you don’t need to measure this. Kitchen hinges are adjustable in/out anyway. It’s the distance up and down the door we need.
How To Measure Kitchen Hinge Holes – First Kitchens
The image above shows the two measurements we need. Firstly, we need the distance from the top of the door to the centre of the top hinge. Secondly, the distance from the bottom of the door to the centre of the bottom hinge.
You will probably find that all your hinge holes have the same measurements, but it’s worth double checking.
